seems successful to me. True, the wall was breached by Genghis Khan in the 1200's. But I don't see much evidence it was ever breached before or after. wikipedia says the wall was more than military in purpose and allowed the Chinese to control immigration, and levy duties on goods along the silk road. cheers.
