I got exactly the opposite take about two weeks before the election (one week before the Comey email dropped). The party strutted around, acting as if Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Virginia were givens when most predictions had her winning within the margin of error. They were so confident that they decided

Little bit of a tangent here, but the War on Terror is a classic example of why I don't think we'll ever see a ground war in the style of a world war any time in the near future. The major powers have learned that proxy wars aided by their military equipment and personnel is far more profitable with much less cost

By contrast, I started with Sound of My Voice, which I found to be a pretty compelling (if slightly over-praised) sorta sci-fi suspense drama about people playing a dangerous game trying to expose a cult. I dug it, so I checked out The East which had some good elements but had a pretty contrived final act. Since I

What's funny was that I actually went out of my way to figure out what happened to this show about a week ago (figuring it might make for a good follow up to Westworld), only to see not a goddamn iota of talk about it. I also assumed it had been quietly squashed or indefinitely caught up in post-production or something

The East was generally very solid but got a little absurd in the last act, probably the result of trying to rush things to some kind of conclusion. It's also the least sci-fi/most grounded of any of her stuff, so that probably put people off a little bit

Yeah, I've been kind of surprised by how much the praise seems to have diminished for her album. There have been a ton of great albums (for example, I forgot to include Deathgrips in my list), but I still go back to Hopelessness frequently. Hard to see it not being my favorite of the year.

Christ, this is such a tough year for making these kind of things. Still sorting through it all (so these rankings are subject to wild change) but roughly:
1. Anohni - Hopelessness
2. Frank Ocean - Blonde
3. Blood Orange - Freetown Sound
4. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
5. Nicolas Jaar - Sirens
6. David Bowie - Blackstar
7.

Right, but I figured that some subset of the mass of undecided voters (another thing I'm surprised about in this election), especially the libertarian leaning tech people, would have at least grumbled a little bit about it

Tangential, but I was kinda surprised there wasn't all that much heat online from Trump's casual "people who are good with computers are also fat and live in basements" joke during the first debate

Not trying to be snide here: do you have any sort of link or reference where Judge actually states his political leanings? I know he's generally opposed to gun control, but I know a lot of people personally who are generally left leaning but who are also opposed to gun control. I can also recognize some leanings in Kin

I watched a single episode of the show. It involved some sort of dating show from hell or something, as illustrated by the screenshot above. The whole skit relied on a lazy combination of Tim-and-Eric-esque awkward absurdity (which I didn't even find all that entertaining in Tim and Eric shows) and a bunch of sexist,

In the boats navigating the water east and west of the wall, probably

I have a feeling the weird white power political movement is mostly made up of frustrated Adam Carolla wanna-be's in the wrong era, so…

Based on the screenshot, I actually watched about five minutes of the show before I even knew about its alt-right connections. That particular sketch was lazy and offensive because its "jokes" relied on really shitty sexist stereotypes about women. But it was on a surreal dating show with absurdist dialogue from the

You're going with that reference? You're braver than I thought

I have a feeling that this is basically the last third of Kot's Zero, adapted into a video game

The pipeline was never being proposed to go under Bismarck and was proposed to be constructed 10 miles north of the city and through its water supply. Again, if it's not safe enough 10 miles north of Bismarck, how exactly is it more safe on a reservation? Because we care less about the people that do live there?
