I'm in the same boat. I don't hate that airport scene by any stretch as it was a helluva lot of fun and pure, unadulterated spectacle as it should be done. But there were so many more thrilling and (to me at least) impressively choreographed action sequences in that movie, especially at the climax

But the whole point is that Elliot is terrible and has never really played it. Even if he was a little decent and experienced at the game, I could also see him decide "I'm gonna play crazy and unpredictable so I trick the voice in my head."
