I have arrived right at opening time at a couple of great restaurants and seen the chef serve up a couple of the specials for the entire wait staff to try. He gave them a description and a chance to ask questions. That level of effort may be rare but I very much appreciated it.

Being polite and using the phrase “I am not sure you can help me with this or not” puts the person in a position where they can demonstrate that they do have the power to help you. People generally want to help and love to show you what power they have. Use that to your advantage.

I am stuck in 2008 tipping 15% for good service. Inflation should take care of the cost of living raises for wait staff. Upping the percentage too seems like double dipping.

My grandmother got a little lazy in her later years and made them as dumplings with the filling mixed in to the dough. They were still delicious. I miss that old broad.

I drove a 1994 Civic from DC to Kansas City on bald tires in a blizzard after buying it for $400 from the tow lot where it was impounded and never picked up by the owner. I put a new battery, changed the oil, topped off the radiator fluid and drove 1,000 miles straight. In retrospect it was insane.

Maybe if you are real nice to her she will buy you a car. Mine did.
