I totally agree with you on most of your points, but to criticize Grand Theft Auto V for encouraging driving is to forget that the series' title is Grand Theft Auto. Driving is its lifeblood.

It's not like a publisher is forcing the dev to remove it against their will. Wreden sounds happy to accommodate people who are uncomfortable with the gag. If he felt strongly that the joke was part of his "artistic vision" he'd probably defend it more (or at all).
