Of course, extending the critique to the Church was a step too far, hence the absurd belief the third movie is somehow terrible.

My interest in movies rocketed upward when I was about 12, stifled a bit by this four-year stretch where my parents forbade me from watching any R-rated movie until I was 16. (of course I found loopholes. Finding ways to watch R-rated movies I was curious about might’ve been my top priority during that time.) Their

We’ve removed that clause and issued a correction.

Bad news for all the folks barfing on this review: I saw this movie a few nights ago, and Dowd’s take is pretty much spot on.

I thought The Hangover was funny enough, but that Dowd line was probably funnier.

The only thing worse than the hype for this movie is the fanboys who have to defend it’s honor against...what? A review that called it pretty good but not great? I mean, a B- from Dowd is one of the higher grades he gives out. Imagine how aggrieved you’d feel if you experienced actual problems.

Honestly the most important Joker story would be the time everyone saw his boner...

My sons will be so happy to hear about this. For their 12th birthday, they invited a bunch of friends to go see Jason Bourne. So we took them to Alamo Drafthouse where we were treated to a trailer for Ugandan Expendables. They still talk about it to this day.

Thank you for this. Really informative!

But no film since Jackie Brown has made better and more pointed use of his detachment, his weariness, and—most relevantly—his advancing years.

Hope I’m wrong, I like Scorsese. But this is a rather tiresome trend among these older male auteurs.”

Film Twitter and other hot take decathlons seem to be really slipping as far as the breath of Scorsese’s oeuvre and contributions to film culture as an archivist and workhorse. So much world cinema have been restored and given their due thanks to Martin and yet to some he’s just the Taxi Driver guy for bro-niphiles.

To add some context, I watched this film first in about 1988, and even then I was gobsmacked (still laughed at everything else). What I’m saying is that this isn’t some #METOO reflex...

That is a great insight. He seems amused at everyone but not in an aloof superior way.

There’s a terrific interview with Bill Murray that was on TCM several years ago. He has observations about Grant that completely changed the way I watch his performances. Murray notes that Grant is always so open and giving to other actors in his scenes with them; and it’s so true. You never really see him ever try

I liked 95% of this movie but the ending really let me down and tainted my feelings about the entire film.

I have always said (to no one in particular) that if I had a time machine I would use it to a) seek out famous ladies I have crushed on at the height of their attractiveness and b) hopefully impress them enough with my time machine that they join my time-travelling orgy. I mean, who could resist the opportunity to go
