A Visit From The Goon Squad might be the most uneven novel I've ever read- that said, when it's good, it's damn good.

I really like this album, but what's keeping me from loving it is the fucking length of these songs. I love long songs when they deserve their length, but these are all simple and decent riffs/progressions that go on about four minutes longer than they need to, and almost every track really drags in its latter half.…
If anybody wants a great charcterization of Lyndon B. Johnson, read David Foster Wallace's short story, "Lyndon." It's one of Wallace's more accessible stories, and probably one of his most engaging. I highly recommend it.
I actually sort of… enjoyed that. I mean, it's pretty pretentious, but its heart's in the right place. And the synth work is actually quite inspired.
This is my favourite album of all time. Bar none. I would say more about it but there's really no point. I'm just gonna go listen to it instead.
Inherent Vice might be the most esoteric movie ever made. If you're into Pynchon, it's a fun flick. Seeing a filmmaker as skillful as P.T.A. realize Pynchon's style on screen is definitely compelling for hardcore fans (of which I am one). But it's not a good movie. I'm pretty much with you on everything you said…
That Mulholland Drive write-up might be the most obnoxious thing I've yet seen on this site.
There's really not much for me to say that hasn't already been said on this thread. But yeah, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is the kind of work that all artists strive to make. It induces a feeling that transcends resonance or connection; when listening to it, you somehow feel as if you are part of something that is…
We'd all have been better off.
Honestly, I think 'Glass Eyes' is the prettiest Radiohead's been since 'Motion Picture Soundtrack.'
This is my first 'new' Radiohead album as I only became a fan in 2012. Really really liking it. 'Daydreaming' and 'Glass Eyes' are my favourites so far, but I'm only halfway through.
That's awesome. I remember how awesome it was first reading the books and watching the movie, seeing the characters interact and meet at all these places I grew up with. It still wows me to see them at the Pizza Pizza I always went to with my friends after school, walking through the Sonic Boom record store, the Todd…
Huh, that's interesting. I went head over heels for the SP books, but I just couldn't get into Seconds. Beautiful illustrations though, that's for sure.
Boooo. Love the movie, but the books are a genre masterpiece.
I live in Toronto and Scott Pilgrim's basically Star Wars over here. If you walk down Bloor Street and start to quote a few lines, the people around you will finish the scene. It's great.
"Our last drummer, he died horifically in combat in the Space War of 2094. Someone shot his space helmet and shattered glass fell from the helmet down into his throat. So he was choking on glass shards while, simultaneously, his head was exploding from exposure to outer space. And then soon enough his head finally…
My personal favourite:
I'm still waiting for someone to prove to me that Sam Elliott isn't Thomas Pynchon.
Admittedly, I was genuinely laughing at the Talking Heads spoof in the beginning. But then the rest of it went on and I became ashamed of my prior approval.
Huh, yeah, you're right. Interesting. Like if Teenage Fanclub and Rivers Cuomo started a boy band. Thanks for this, man. I would have never known.
