The air intake goes right through the insulation. If you look closely you can seep a pipe going through and apparently into the firewall. If I had to guess I would say it’s plumbed to something well above the waterline to protect it against inhaling spray.

That’s exactly right, and it’s that style, largely developed in games like Dark Souls, applied to the Metroidvania genre that I’m saying is an advancement of the genre.

Your problem isn’t the PB it’s that soft white bread.  Get something with some texture and resistance.  You’ll never have it cement itself to any part of your mouth and can try any type of PB.
