Because a fuel cell gets its hydrogen from one of two primary methods - electrolysis or natural gas reformation - both of which are inefficient and consume significant amounts of energy. That same energy could be used more directly and efficiently in powering the vehicle directly in an EV.

Yeah, this is unlikely to be outside anyone’s home. The 800V DC stations would likely be placed along freeways to enable intercity travel, similar to Tesla. As you stated, the MissionE would charge at 208V/240V AC at home.

Yes, that is part of the SAE standards. Basically the charging station does a handshake with the car (to check for proper grounding, etc.) prior to any power moving through the wires. Only after the car says “OK” does the system turn on.

“Psst, Volvo, you don’t have to be so honest.” — All the other automakers

I think that “core to their business” part is the key here. Their standard gas engines are nice, but if you take a Golf or Passat with one of those and compare it to its natural competitors (Mazda 3, Focus for the Golf; Mazda 6, Accord for the Passat), then you don’t have anything that truly, qualitatively

Neutral: I don’t think VW Diesel sales will ever truly recover. They voluntarily broke from industry trend by putting a lot of eggs in that basket (partially at the expense of hybrids, etc), but I think they’ll quietly take all those eggs out of that basket over the next couple years.

I mean, there have been 4 door sedans in the past that could do this...E60 M5 could go 204, any AMG sedan from the last decade will break though 200 without a limiter, same with various VAG products. People are acting like this is the first time a 4 door car has ever been able to go this fast and it’s not really true.

It’s the hero the planet deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt it. Because it can take it. Because it’s not our hero. It’s a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A Catalytic Converter.

Thank you for fucking saying this. I am so sick of people running no cats on street cars.

3rd Gear: The Hybrids Are Too Damn Quiet Pedestrians Won’t Look Up From Their Damn Phones.

3rd: Are there seriously cyclists out there who can’t see cars coming? Are they also hearing impaired due to the clanging together of their brass balls?

I know the legislation is meant to help sight-impaired people, but starting off with, “Ever almost get mowed down by a Prius when you step into the street?” makes me respond, “No, because I use crosswalks, walk with the light, and look both ways,” the last of which referring to left and right, not my phone and my

Amen brother. VR6’s are along the same lines. every day for the last 10 years I’d put the key in and wonder, “is today my lucky day?” luckily it always was.

Came here to post this, thank you for mentioning it!

Timing Chain design from the 4.2L V8 used in B6/B7 Audi S4.
First, you design it to where you need to pull the engine completely if you need to do maintenance.
Then you spec a chintzy plastic guide that is prone to cracking, and if said guide breaks say ‘Bye Bye’ to your engine and child’s college savings.

People really are that stupid. Completely incapable of learning from their own mistakes. Let’s think back to what happened when gas prices shot up over $4 a gallon and you couldn’t sell an suv even if you filled it with cash. now the happy days of $2 gas are back and people are buying suvs again without stopping to

1st: Wait a minute-I thought young adults always rejected the buying choices of their parents. The youngest Gen Xers and oldest Millennials that spent their adolescent years in the backs of minivans now hate minivans. The Boomers that spent their adolescent years in the backs of station wagons hate station wagons. So

It rocks. Really fun to drive. We leased a 2014 REx back in May and haven’t looked back. We charge it like you charge your phone... from a 120V outlet on the wall of the garage. Oh, and get the Harmon Kardon stereo.
