About 85% of gas stations are also convenience stores, as such, the majority of their electricity goes to refrigeration and HVAC. If the vast majority of the population was charging their cars at home, then what happens to the convenience store part after the gas pumps are mostly idle/gone is, as of yet, an unanswered…

Yes, I was definitely being conservative.  Apparently the average gas station draws about 40KW and there are a little over 10,000 in California. So those are drawing about 400 MW! So it looks like switching to all-electric cars might actually decrease electric usage!

15 million vehicles * 50 kwh / 10 hrs/night = 75 MW.  California currently has 80,000 MW of power plant capacity.   Seems like charging will not be an issue.
