No. The kinetic strike is basically the same idea as the french airforce dropping concrete bombs on tanks. Contained destruction. The explosions being small is part of the point.

Havent read the book yet, but the show is pretty well constructed. Adding more moving parts to it would probably not have been a good idea, at least not as regards reaching an audience beyond fans of the book. 

Nothing really springs to mind. It has a bit of the flavor of counterpart - a complete naif being catapulted into a web of byzantine intrigue in which they are assumed to be an informed player, but the main character is more ignorant, sharper, and way more impulsive, all at once.
