Sadly, I never invested into any horror games until Silent Hill Homecoming, which was only scary for the first hour or so. Before that my scariest gaming experience was the Chozo ghost battle in Metroid Prime.

I really never minded any of the PlayStation controllers. I still feel the GameCube controller is the best, in terms of controllers, but I've never held a controller and thought, "I can't do this!"
