@eclare09: They can do jobs for which they're paid (albeit a very low amount) or their family members can put money into their commissary accounts. I assume a bunch of them pooled their funds to come up with the $1,000.

I quit job #1 for job #2, then (3 years later) quit job #2 to go out on my own. In both cases, I just typed up a letter of resignation, printed it out and handed it to my boss. I reiterated a little bit of what was in there ("I've grown a lot here") but mostly let the letter do the talking for me.

I actually got most of the way through an episode before realizing the title characters weren't supposed to be lesbians (or, in the case of Alexander, at least bi). Of course, I spent most of the initial episode thinking I was watching a Law & Order spinoff, so I might not be the best example.
