I don’t think this is correct. However it’s also irrelevant, because it doesn’t matter how easy it is to carry a gun. What matters is how easily you can use a gun to deprive people of life or property.

Hardly matters. The new emissions rules make small sporty cars with a manual transmission essentially illegal. If you want a stick it has to be in a giant un-fun inefficient truck or SUV. Because that’s all you can sell with an engine now.
