I don’t actually think they are equal in terms of their social context, but only as far as the literal procedure (and only in some cases). I absolutely agree that the issues surrounding both MC/MGM and FGM are very different and need to be treated individually.

That is an over simplification of the motivates. The reasons for FGM vary sisignificantly depending on the culture.
