It’s extremely telling that everyone had smoke and comments for the dark skin mono racial black girl with the 4c hair, but not even a cough for the bi racial mixed girl in the same campaign.
I can’t even be arsed to attempt to slick my edges. Fuck that shit! I’ve got better things to do and frankly all that slicking is unnecessary.
So all of this is much ado about respectability politics. And surprise, surprise it’s another Black man policing a Black female because she’s just not good (read: white) enough.
I hate this obsession with “laid edges” when it comes to natural hair. If its curly unleash the curls. I don’t understand why people fight to put hair in pony tail and end up with traction alopecia, just let the fro go.
Good-they shouldn’t apologize for a kid looking like a kid. None of the other children in the ad had their hair gelled down. All of the kids looked like they’d just been scampering around outside.
If all the kids in the campaign had messy hair, then this isn’t a controversy. I’m not going to do the research to determine if that’s the case, though. I don’t care enough.
Who helped popularized what now??
James Baldwin used the word nigger too, is he “an arrogant donkey?”
It I so important to get help. Like you, I struggled with mental illness much of my life. Which led to addiction. Because I was too embarrassed to say “hey y’all, I’m in pain right now. And I need help!”. But once I got help(forced thanks to the DOC), I don’t even know how to describe what my life has been like now…
Yep, raising awareness is super important.
I love, love, love that people are being more open about depression and anxiety. I’ve been living with both since the 80s, but didn’t know what it was for a long time, and then when I did, I didn’t want to be called crazy, so I hid it until I damn near had a breakdown when I was 28 and finally asked for help.
I’ve only realized I’m a trans woman recently (August 6th is my new birthday), so I’m not really studied up on trans issues, but I do know how I feel.
Anyone who comes in here complaining about Eminem’s absence from the list can be dismissed.
“Until you’re ready to call somebody out and not be friends with them, you’re not ready to confront colorism.”
I think that you’re being a bit harsh. As you said, Naomi was the only, only early in her career. Let those of us who have not remained silent as the only, only in the room, be the first to cast the first stone.
I don’t know who let you out of the greys, but this and your other post stating that Jamaicans are not Black, is verifiable proof that you are nowhere near being Black yourself, and are yet another lily white troll practicing digital Blackface.
I mean this from the bottom of my heart: Go Fuck yourself.
Remember this: 91 Dems voted against that slewfoot ass spending package but Pelosi singled out 4 of them....all women, all POC.
