In recent years the negative types have become increasingly vociferous. Obviously there are countless fans with varying degrees of affection for each individual film or the franchise as a whole, but the sheer vitriol of many directed specifically at Lucas has left a bad taste for me regarding much of the fandom.

We wouldn’t be having this discussion today if his work on Star Wars did not achieve his singular vision, one which continues to reverberate. The work of dozens went into helping achieve that vision, but he guided it and changed film history forever, in some very fundamental ways.

A New Hope is a much, much better film than Return of the Jedi, and it’s pretty much apples/oranges with Empire.

Please, THX-1138 and American Graffiti are both excellent, as well. The man could write and direct.

As a big nerd, I remember really appreciating their “databank” lore section, which I believe was first implemented before Wookiepedia became a big thing.

...and paid the price from capricious, entitled fanboys.
