I think the protomolecule story is always there in the background of seasons 5 & 6, certainly in the way they solve their Marco Inaros problem.

Since the last three books are set 30 years after the events of book 6, they have time to get everything and everyone together to film it and they wouldn’t even have to age everyone up too much.
