THIS is exactly the kind of classic you want. Reminds me of my old Frankencar, a 1962 356B T-6 Coupe. Had the engine from a 64, was painted decently a light yellow color but it was originally blue which you could see when it chipped anywhere and some areas of the interior, but it ran like an absolute top and needed…
With a Ferrari, everyone (even the very clueless) know you’re driving something special. This Merc is almost invisible among all the other Mercs out there, except to a few gearheads.
It’s cool, and I like it, but 40 large? For real? Collectors will immediately strike it down for the insane mileage. It’s not unique enough to stand out in the crowd. I couldn’t even see this selling for half that much. So much crack pipe.
It’s a lot of money for the miles. It’s a lot of miles for a Callaway (anything).
A somewhat rare, cheap, and fun old K-car with the Turbo II for $1600.00? Only slightly rarer than the Mitsubishi garbage engine 30L version, but not as rare as the DOHC. Absofuckinglutely NP! I could even afford to swap it out to the 5-speed.
With some work it would be perfect for wanting to live 90's nostalgia,
That’s what I’m thinking. I’d have way more fun and less hassle with this than modding a Miata or something German. It’s never going to be worth significantly less than it is now, and the seat hopefully can just be reupholstered. NP, and I’d never would have thought I’d be seriously considering a Corvette.
I should have bought that rsx from a high school vice principal last month that he was selling for $2500.....
No thanks. I don’t want to have to explain my vehicle to people.
I see everyone wants to comment on my Not Very Thorough ™ cleaning company. At NVT™, we aim to make it feel like you detailed your car about a month ago. Our technicians sprinkle just the right blend of potting soil and beach sand into your floor mats. A specialist dusts your dashboard with a mixture of all purpose…

Well, obviously you made a mistake. You didn’t drive Golf R. They are a hoot!
The one time I rode Amtrak, my four hour ride turned into 11-1/2 hours of hell. I was never able to fall asleep. The kid in my car wasn’t crying, but laughing very loudly for 11 of those hours. I love kids. I love hearing them laugh. 11 hours of it, is not recommend.
If I was going to track it, I’d certainly wait for an S. For driving on the street, there’s practically no difference between them.
I’ve not owned one of these so I’m just shooting from the hip. That said I rented a 986 non-S Boxster and while it wasn’t light your hairs on fire, it was surprisingly fast.
2011 Honda Insight driver here. Said the same thing lol.
I own a base model and at no point have I been tempted to upgrade to an S. Sure, it’s faster, but the base model is so good that it never seems worth the price bump to go to the S. I don’t blame anyone for shelling out for the S, but to me I get so much out of the base that I never feel like I’m missing out enough to…
Remind me to skip the bland-ass 90/10 burgers at your cookout.
I too voted “some dice”. It’s cheaper than a comp FJ Cruiser, extra money to spend on off-road goodies.
