wouldn’t an FPS with tank controls work pretty well? like you are sitting in a tank cockpit, you can look around, but ultimately you have to move the tank with the controller to aim your gun. i guess i don’t see how this would be different than a flight or driving game.

I think they don’t want any sort of in-game tracking for legal reasons. They don’t want to be leading people anywhere because then they might become liable for trespassing, injuries, deaths, and whatever else. As long as people are wandering around randomly, they aren’t liable in any way.
