Why do we need to pretend that this lady is noble, or even to assess her nobility in any way? What we need to assess is whether she is truthful. If so, that is all that matters. The only purpose that assessing her motivations for uncovering wrongdoing serves is to take attention away from the underlying wrongdoing.

Never forget, people; one poorly worded and intentionally vague (not to mention illegally disclosed) press release means that the Baylor administration is a paragon of virtue, Crawford is just another money grubbing woman and all is right and just in the world.

Interesting how many people right here assume the worst about this woman because she’s looking out for her own interests.

Yes, probably. All of the names and details will come out when she files her inevitable lawsuit, but at that time the disclosure will be shielded by the litigation privilege. There’s no upside and lots of downside to naming them on TV as opposed to a court filing.

Is there a reason why she should not go on TV with this?

People keep saying this in the comments, but it’s really unclear based on what’s been reported if this is actually the case.

So just some random definition of “a lot.” Got it.

Thanks for just restating Harvard’s position.

The 1.5 million was not “guaranteed”, it was a proposed settlement of Crawford’s retaliation complaint against Baylor administration, and specifically Senior VP Reagan Ramsower. Crawford rejected the 1.5 million in order to be able to speak freely. Additionally, while it seems likely that the 2 million Baylor rejected

What you’re saying is that, because the job is low-skill, the people who perform the job don’t deserve to make a living wage. They didn’t go to college, so in the summer, they can just starve, I guess.

A lot compared to what? Harvard’s ability to pay? The living expenses these workers face?

What does that matter? $35,000 is barely enough to live off of. Why shouldn’t someone working a ful time job get a livable wage?

I don’t consider asking for a living wage outrageous.

$35,000 a year seems like a lot to ask to you? You have a weird definition of “a lot.”

Interesting how Baylor’s treatment of their Title IX coordinator, “what a greedy little attention-seeker” is so similar to how people tend to treat women who claim they’ve been raped by Baylor athletes.

In fairness when they yell “go back to your country” Toronto fans usually mean America.

That’s a strawman: no one uses biography so bluntly. But try separating what you know of Joyce from Ulysses or of Dickinson from her poems—in those cases (in most cases) it’s nearly impossible to begin to interpret without certain background assumptions, however minimal, about who the author was. Even the premise that
