Yes I have, and yes, a knife did the trick. When someone who quickly decides to attack you with a knife realizes you also have one, they become a lot more careful in their slashes and you have a much better chance of retreating.

And why does the defensive weapon have to be a killing machine? Why not a knife? Especially a larger knife; it’d do the same intimidation job rather well.
