I taught in a charter school in a black/latino neighborhood with mostly white staff. They are entirely dehumanizing. Teachers are supposed to make sure students sit in a certain posture and stay completely silent until called on. We had bathroom escorts just like in this story. I didn’t last long there because I

My heart broke a bit reading about this. But what’s sadder is that the policy will probably not change, unless parents and community challenge it and I think that might come at cost. Many of these schools operate in communities that are not only poor/low-income but have no other opportunities. The neighborhood school,

Reading that article, I wasn’t sure if you were describing a school or a prison. Escorts to the bathroom?!? Kinda sounds like a prison.

I still appreciate she does know she has issues and is willing to take a step back to work on it. She stopped bleaching, she is working with a therapist, she is focusing on her work.I respect it.

I believe that in the coming years, we will look back on these types of charter schools and realize they were every bit as destructive as the Indian Schools of the last century.

Wait so, they know that their policies lead to girls bleeding through their pants on a regular basis, and their solution is to... just change the color of their pants???!!! WTF. That is seriously messed up.

Wow. I dig their claim of 99% graduation rate given that every few years this school corp. is in the news for their draconian measures. Children receiving demerits for speaking out of turn, higher than average rate of suspensions/ expulsions and a monetary fine system of students that allowed Noble to pocket $400,000

When will we get enough of chasing after authoritarianism? It’s never done anything for black people except keep them in mental slavery.

Why is it that schools like these with inhumane rules always crop up in Black neighborhoods?

This is unhygenic, not to mention being physically, as well as, emotionally abusive.

As the parents of one of the girls currently still in the home of Mr. Kelly. I am overjoyed & have renewed hope that the truth will prevail, & our girls are safety released. Am so glad, as a mom, I had the courage to speak up & start the conversation, & reporting of my findings, with the help of our reporter Jim

“...women of all kinds.” Should be changed to “...women of all kinds, and children.”

Standing on the shoulders of those who can before us.

It’s trending and it’s wonderful! Stations are dropping him and... fingers crossed he will get charged/convicted soon (it’s not soon, because it’s been 20+ years).

whenever I hear a dj play his music I’m disappointed. That track is old as hell and he’s a pedo! Stop playing him!

Thank you so much for standing with me, all of the brave women of the #MuteRKelly movement, and the countless victims of sexual abuse. R Kelly has been supported by our community for too long - enabling him to outresource his victims and outmaneuver the legal system. This ends now! To support: www.muterkelly.org

I can’t remember if it was that VSB post or somewhere else, but some fool actually said R. Kelly making what they consider to be good music was enough to absolve him of wrong doing. Some people are pure trash and are eager to tell us all how trash they are.

As Women of Color within Time’s Up, we recognize that we have a responsibility to help right this wrong. We intend to shine a bright light on our WOC sisters in need.

This has been too long in coming. Thank you. Let’s leave this monster destitute and dying of syphilis under a pedestrian bridge in Atlanta with rats eating his toes. The only fitting end for “the Pied Piper.”
