Tlaib sent a letter last night asking for permission and said would “respect any restrictions and will not promote boycotts against Israel during my visit.”

Still not sure I buy it. It just sounds so counter-intuitive. Paid workers are paid enough to enjoy a quality of life at least marginally better than what slaves got, and the lack of motivation never seemed to render plantations unprofitable. The German factories that utilized Jewish slave labor during the Holocaust

Sick, that’s what I’m talking about! Perfect.

Lane Kiffin makes $950K at Florida Atlantic AND gets to hang out with the all old folks in Boca, so seems like his current gig is pretty sweet.

They’re like Arsenal- had some past glory, but mostly living off that goodwill, with an occasional bright spot. They aren’t willing to make the fundamental changes to compete today.

I feel like the only thing you got right was counting to three successfully.

Hey man it’s cool, as a Southern leftist I’m used to smug, ill-informed dismissals from self-satisfied white liberals.

It’s almost impressive how Netanyahu and Tlaib are in a race to see who can look worse in this situation.

The most offensive part of that clip is the jacket on the guy second from left.

What really makes this clip special is that you can just tell how pissed off Greenberg is that his milquetoast little morning show no one watches just had a rare moment of levity.

I tend to think too that the rise of authoritarianism is aided by having a weak opposition. The entire American political system is structured (by design by the parties themselves) to ensure a Democratic-Republican duopoly, and, over the past 50 years, we’ve faced a supremely well-organized GOP and an incredibly

“It’s not that the Republicans are playing chess and the Democrats are playing checkers, it’s that the Republicans are playing chess, and the Democrats are in the nurses office because they once again glued their balls to their thighs. *makes near vomiting motion* I’m sorry, I thought I could get through a simple

I’m a horrible person who views way too much in terms of winning and losing politically, but why did she agree to the letter last night?

I’m going to counter by saying that the transplants we’re getting are at least 50% conservative as shit. Like, that one guy from upstate New York, or Jersey, or Pennsylvania or Indiana? We’ve got cities brimming with them. They’re about as progressive as the buggy whip industry.

I hear this asserted often, but I never see it explained in a way that makes sense to me.
Why couldn’t slaves have been profitably put to work in factories?

Another thing that is getting lost in the mix of Southern politics: Northerners are tipping the balance in purple states.

Yet you conveniently ignore that South Carolina (the first state to secede) did it solely to preserve the institution of slavery after the federal government wouldn’t enforce the fugitive slave act in free states, which essentially says that they reject States rights when they can enforce their laws in other states. Wh

Yes. That was a series of increasingly poor decisions.

If by “Democrats still don’t understand the south” you mean that they don’t accept the republican’s purely cynical “Southern strategy” then yes, democrats often fail by assuming there’s still hope and essential good to be encouraged, (“call it the curse of Luke Skywalker”)

Ah, yes, the timeless conservative argument of “NUH HUH.” Devastating.
