I told my Into to Lit teacher in the 9th grade I morally objected to Catcher in the Rye and she gave me Great Expectations.. which I skim read but did not absorb... there is a reason I got a D in that class.. mostly it was that I was more interested in reading Comic Books that year...

I should add that I was taking

“His response was that I was a very old 16 year old, that I’d lived through a lot of stuff that the vast majority of my classmates hadn’t had to go through at that point,”

THIS... so many of the cannon books are aimed at kids who have had select set of experiences.. maybe divorce, or job loss of a parent have been

I recall Marsha Warfield from Night Court joking that NBC stood for Negro Broadcasting Network at one point. In addition to African America prime time current sit coms there were re runs of: The Jeffersons, Good Times, What’s Happening along side diverse sit coms like Barney Miller that were all over syndication in

All things move towards their end.. people still need a place to eat and buy food so something new can rise to meet that need...

Of books we had to read for the 20th century part of American Lit in High School (circa 1991) Grapes of Wrath was the middle of the pack.. the best was The Woman Warrior and the worst was The Bluest Eye...

Nontraditional public schools”

I am sure she is not talking about the Alternative Schools like the one I went to. The Local Religious Wrong types hated the school and wanted it to go away so much that they got elected to the school board.

They should do a Stray Dog riff with Kenobi looking for his stolen light saber...

Wasteland and Wasteland 2 both had fun with silly ideas, allusions to pop culture and fun word play. What makes the comedy work is that it is part of the game.. but not the focus.

I would love to have my grandmothers kitchen from 1969, which largely stayed the same for the 40 odd years she lived in that house. It was a shame when the original oven finally had to be replaced and the 2000s era white stove just did not have the same look, feel or functionality of the original.

as I recall.. I do

The fact that late era T Rex member Gloria Jones was not part of the line up who were nominated is a missed opportunity by the rock hall.

Former USA IKEA (mid 2000s) employ here:

my understanding is that because they are in international waters the taxes of Sweden and Finland are not charged.

“I don’t get it.”

“poor” kids all over the country get to play sports in all kinds of places, in many parts of the USA those kids get to go to thee best private schools on scholarship... there is also the issue of minor leagues where they not only get to play.. but get paid.

As I recall.. and it has been a decade since I was last in Sweden, alcohol over a certain ABV is sold at the system, everything under that ABV can be sold at grocery stores, gas stations and even at the cafe at universities.

where I grew up soccer was barely a high school team sport, mostly kids played on rec & ed or non school affiliated travel teams. In many places in the world fotball is a major sport and the best players grow out of school teams early. No one is talking about taking away the sport, only removing it from the structure

I am glad to hear that your school was more accepting than most. My No Sport Team High School was also fairly accepting, we were a safe haven for a lot of kids who didn’t fit in at the other schools, mixed race, handicapped, learning disabled, artistic types, kids who were gay/questioning, kids that were struggling at

let me just ask.. how gay friendly do you think the high school sports teams were when you were in school? when I was in school they were the least friendly place for LBGTQ students. Dance class, Model UN, Jazz Band, Drama were much more open and welcoming. As was gym class where if the runner who came in last but

Team sports aren’t the only option.. how many people fell through the cracks because of schools being focused on team sports at the cost of real true physical education?

there is an alternative where sports are available they are just not tied to the schools. I have seen that confidence in athletic ability from people who took dance, or martial arts, or ROTC, or were in a running club, skateboarded (btw my no sports teams High School did produce some pro and high level amateur skaters)
