Who in their right mind would buy and set up these devices to replace land lines when they almost certainly already have a phone to set up the devices in the first place? Just use the damn phone.
Sounds really easy and user friendly. Especially compared to a phone you don’t need to set up specially for intercom or Alexa use.

A current enough Motorola Android phone with a good update policy costs $200. Your phone can be voice controlled and it can read you things on demand. Everything the echo can do, a phone can do as well, and more.

Now that everybody including kids has a cell phone and minutes aren’t really metered anymore, what is the point of a fixed intercom when you can just call someone from anywhere in the house, instead of near the Echo, in those cases when it’s not convenient to walk over to them?
