Oh yeah, that would be how I imagine I’d pick one up. Higher mileage but still in mostly good shape. The paint on that looks fairly workable. I’ve thought about picking up an 8th gen Si, but the paint issues on those are utterly nightmarish.

Yeah, the K-series is so much better than the H. Smoother, better aftermarket support, better response to mods, 6-speed transmissions available (as my TSX has, which is very rare for the 2nd gen), and (hot take alert) supported by electric power steering, which I like better than hydraulic due to all the issues I’ve…
You know, I actually have had the redone door window trim sitting around for awhile, just have never gotten around to putting it on. I probably will do the black housing headlights at some point, but it has more important things to be fixed right now, in addition to me wanting to pay my TSX off as soon as possible.
Oh, yeah, the amount of work it took to make mine as fast as it is, if put into a 350Z, would make that extremely fast. But the Prelude shell cost me $800 and already had a carbon hood on it. Couldn’t get a 350 for that. Now if it would just stop eating power steering pumps.
63/37.
Yeah, I have an aftermarket rear sway bar for the Prelude, among other things. It is very much not stock. A stock one needs some help in order to beat up on 350Zs and VTEC Civics/Integras.
Yep. The 99-01s weren’t *as* bad, but they still weren’t good. I always say the first rule of buying a 5th gen Prelude is that you do not buy one with an automatic, and the second rule is that you do not buy one with an automatic.
I’m talking about the Prelude, but yeah, the RSX is definitely a better driving experience than the TSX as well. That said, the TSX is the most livable of the three to me.
My car is more than a little modified. Engine, suspension, weight reduction, lighter wheels. You’re right though, a stock one would only beat Mustangs out of that group.
Yep, you could. It’s just that the Prelude was marketed more as a luxury car in Japan so most of them there were sold with automatics. I wonder how they felt about the transmission issues with the SportShift...
I don’t care that mine isn’t RWD. As long as it can go faster in the twisties than 350Zs, pre-Coyote Mustangs, and most Civics, who cares?
Tan was only on green 97-98s. (You could also get red in Japan.) In some areas you could also get leather interior.
The base Prelude with a 5-speed weighed about 100 pounds less than the SH. And the 8th gen is notorious for having paint issues.
I have one, as well as a 2009 TSX, both manual. The TSX is a better car in every way except for the driving experience. The Prelude is just more visceral, in a way you can’t really explain.
I have a 2001 base that I drive on nice days. It’s seen better days and is on its second engine (an H23 VTEC from Japan), but man is it a blast to drive. It has the OEM lip kit and the wheels are from an Accord Euro-R.
I’m on record as not liking the looks of the new Civic in general, but the Si is better looking than the rest of them.
Glayvin!
My first car was also a 3rd gen Prelude. It wasn’t in great shape, but it was cool enough that I eventually got another one, which I still have, for that very reason.
