I think my favorite part of this episode was Simmons trying to defend the repression box as being a good system. The rest of their argument in the containment unit, some of which I had to use subtitles to actually understand was pretty great too.

I did a rewatch of the first four seasons about a year ago, and the show did a pretty impressive job of going from “Simmons is probably somewhat out of his league but they could maybe make sense as a couple?” to “Oh my god why are they not together!?!”

Now playing

I really love this deleted scene from Season 1's SHIELD Academy episode and am happy that this episode is more of less consistent with it, with Fitz and Simmons taking a little bit to hit it off (it starts at 2:45 if my link doesn’t start there).

Yes, her ex-husband was a therapist and worked for shield for a while in seasons 2 and 3 (I’m not sure if he was technically a SHIELD employee but he was around a lot). Simmons was actually in therapy with him for a bit after she got back from the alien planet.

Uh... corporate synergy?

I think part of the issue that the Arrowverse writers tend to bring in characters whose main reason for existing mostly to be love interests. As opposed to Alex/Maggie or Nia/Brainy where both characters have/had a role on the show outside of the relationship.

He managed to survive as a space scavenger or whatever. He’s probably not any less qualified to be a field agent than Daisy was before she got her powers.

I’m going to disagree somewhat, actually. They’ve trapped all the gruff, serious, humorless characters in the earth storyline, and I think he’d help balance things out and add a bit of humor.

Did Fitz and Enoch know the date that earth was getting shattered? (This is an honest question.) If not, they could think it’s still coming.

It’s almost kinda amusing how much better the Arrowverse writers are at writing/creating romantic chemistry on accident than they are on purpose.

The hacking has come up from time to time in later seasons, in Season 3 she was hacking the team when she was under Hive’s sway and in Season 4 she was the one who hacked into the Framework. I’m not sure if it came in Season 5.

I’m kinda curious to see if she tries to use that as an excuse as well (“Space rockets were about the to kill us, I didn’t have time to program in Earth’s coordinates, so I jumped to the coordinates that I had already put into the system”).

I wouldn’t think so, considering they broke out of that timeline.. Freezing Fitz wouldn’t get him to the future with a shattered earth to close the loop.

(Try to reply again because I think Kinja ate my comment)

A couple more things in play regarding the cgi

I’m kind surprised the showrunners aren’t just running with all the time travel in Season 5 causing a timeline separate from the movies. Alternate timelines are even canon within the show (the one where the earth shatters vs. the one it’s in now). Simmons line about almost regretting changing the timeline almost would

Regarding the torture, I think that’s actually something the show has avoided having its protagonists do in the past? The closest I can think of is a while back when Simmons tricked a guy into giving up info by threatening him with torture and showing him Aida’s severed head. I might be forgetting something though.

She got really dark in Season 2, going all anti-inhuman and trying to murder Ward. If anything, getting stranding on the alien planet in Season 3 softened the character for a bit.

I like it for this reason as well. The will they or won’t they in the Arrowverse (and TV in general) is so geared towards big feeling and epic love and wanting to be together forever and stuff, so I find it refreshing that it’s basically justtwo attractive people on a timeship who generally get along figuring they
