Woke up to this news and it’s a punch to the gut. When he revealed his diagnosis, it didn’t sound optimistic, but I had really hoped he’d be around longer... there aren’t enough words to honor the life this man lived. A legacy of “good trouble,” indeed. Rest easy, sir.

You get my vote!

Mo Rocca did an episode of his podcast, Mobituaries, called “Billy Carter: Death of the First Brother.” It was pretty interesting and gave some background and depth to someone who had become kind of a punchline.  If you’re at all interested in that story, I recommend it!

I watched that and I hope that clip gets posted/retweeted/whatever everywhere.  Ana went IN.

Super easy, no baking required, perfect for hot weather dessert: the icebox cake.  Definitely an oldie-but-goodie.

I haven’t thought about what this guy looks like until now, but... this tracks.

Don’t pay it any mind... even just screenshotting.  Obviously just craves attention from the site he can’t stay away from.

Wait, where did she go? She just left Rerun’s cousin out on the stoop like that??

Great article, J’na, and thanks for including the videos- I’m gonna check these out.

Yessss! I truly and un-ironically love this one. We didn’t have MTV when I was a kid, so I saw that video on “Night Tracks,” the Friday/Saturday night video show on TBS (I think). That one really long note Eddie holds towards the end? I tried to hit that one every single time with no success.

Junior year of high school, 1992. A large part of the student body walked out of class to protest the acquittal of the cops who had beaten Rodney King so viciously. I forget a lot of the specifics of it, because it’s been quite some time, but I remember us walking out and gathering on the field, and students speaking

Oh my GOD.

Thanks for this, Aimee.

The TMZ article said that after the rescue team saved his son, a huge wave crashed onto him and pulled him away... his probable last words saved his son and then he’s gone in a second.  Absolutely tragic.  Damn.
