Amazing.  Over the years there's been a lot of other deft, precisely metered, really funny verse from Battlecar. BC for AVC poet laureate!

We had to memorize an entire poem back in elementary school, and I picked that one. Now I think that even if I had Alzheimer's I could still recite it.

This is a really good article, ostensibly about Jay-Z's book Decoded, but also about attempts to bridge poetry scholarship and rap lyrics:

Later translations, such as the "TV edit" vernacular, have the last line as "I'm gonna put my foot/ dead in her ass".

Oh lordy
Doves fly away
When I die/ Let my girlfriend have my eyes
Dooooves fly away

See, this is one unkillable movie idea that they SHOULD remake every twenty years or so.  (See also: Rio Bravo, Yojimbo)

I snuck into Aliens during the third reel.  I thought I was going to have a heart attack of awesomeness.
(Wait, how old was I?  *Checking* …eleven?  That's a little young!)

I'm having a lot of trouble thinking of well-received English-language debuts.  I can come up with Elizabeth and Blowup and then I'm stuck.

Pretty much all Criterion packaging is totally dope.  I've often thought they could make a pretty sweet coin expanding their movie poster selection to include as close to everything in print as possible.  That's one area they probably shouldn't curate as carefully as they do everything else.

This would happen to me, too - even other fans of the show, forced to comment in other show threads, seemed resigned to Earl being something the AVC staff just didn't care about.  I still don't understand why - was it the seeming broadness of the humor, the surface trashiness, or even the Scientology rumors that made

I want a freeze frame of that list.

Had absolutely no idea tonight was going to be an Earl reunion.  So fucking delighted.  When Darnell showed up, I was praying to hear Floyd say, "Hey, Pizzaman!"  Day made.

I spent a stretch of several years so busy I barely ever even had the time to sit down for television (just thinking about it now makes me tired), and as a result I found commercials absolutely excruciating.
I'm certainly used to them again these days (no DVR or Hulu+), but their revealed transparent crassness has

A good crawfish boil is one of the best things in the universe - but you can't really order them at a restaurant.  You can get bags of crawfish at local seafood takeout places, but that's not quite the same.  I always thought someone could make a killing opening a place in the Quarter with long tables, all spread with

As stellar as Cold Vein is top to bottom, it's the production that keeps me coming back year after year.  Too bad; it would be mind-blowing to see what current RAP Music/No Cancer El-P would do on a new Can Ox album.

I have a bookmark file for all things AVC, but it started out with only one purpose…
…it's titled "biastioc".

The epic fails of pop culture are the loamy, fecund manure from which sprouts parodic genius.  Especially around here.

I guess I was hoping that fans of the above would be as likely to be white as not, but sadly I think you're right.

This one weirds me out a bit -
Most likely to have been arrested, in order: Muddy Waters, Buena Vista Social Club(!), Billie Holliday, Thelonious Monk, Robert Johnson.
I can see blues listeners being likely to run afoul, but…Monk?  And Buena Vista?  I guess it's mostly that fans of "older" music are going to skew older,

Also in recent SF that uses lots of practical effects and look fantastic (and much better than their much bigger budget CGI counterparts): Moon, Sunshine, The Fountain.
