Same here. I had an immediate reaction to Monk very early on in my education - his dissonant curlicues stood out like a beacon. A million times yes. I was shepherded into jazz largely by Harrison Ridley Jr. a DJ on WRTI in Philly (back when it was an all-jazz station), and this was his era. Pure love.
My formative experience was 'Sketches of Spain' - that was the first jazz LP I carefully selected and bought, and played endlessly, and every time I've heard it on CD or mp3 it just doesn't compare.
