Actually, I WOULD watch a depiction of these characters as, sad, broken, and delusional - precisely because, as you say, the magic is most certainly over.  Hamill would just show up as contrast as the one who's actually kind of well-adjusted.

Always meant to read Bad Blood, as I always love a good closing chapter on a long-running character (especially one who's life is as epically fucked up as John's).  I don't think I'd be as interested if it weren't by Delano, though, who really laid the blueprint for who John is now.
