I don’t know, that just seems dishonest to me. In Westworld, one of the attractions of the park is that there’s a bunch of robots who literally cannot resist you. So obviously rape and violence towards women is going to play a big role. In Game of Thrones, politics is basically all about fathers marrying their

I guess I would consider them all fictional universes, though I see what you mean. However I think if GoT and Westworld had super progressive societies it would be pretty stupid, that concept doesn’t really make sense to me.

You think 70s New York was a worse place for women than medieval times or the old west???????

I know, I’m defending Mel by pointing out that his comment isn’t hypocritical and is consistent with his work. Mel would never mock victims of such atrocities, and this is true for the topic of racism as well. Even in the ugliness of the Blazing Saddles world, it holds back a lot in terms of the dark reality of that

I suppose it was inevitable and maybe built into the show from the start, but I don’t really like the romance/sexual angle they went for in the finale. I like the characters better as just friends and mentors. Regardless, I’m still looking forward to the new season.

I’ve heard people say this before, but I don’t get it. I think our culture has become much more accepting of comedy and all its rebellion. Honestly Blazing Saddles seems fairly tame today, in my opinion, though of course it still holds up. Mel Brooks’ comedy never felt cruel to me, whereas a lot of humor I see now

Not really, he’s made lots of Nazi jokes in his career. In Blazing Saddles he doesn’t make jokes at the expense of oppressed black people, he makes fun of their oppressors and the society built around that.

I agree I don’t think we’ve heard Kanye’s most innovative stuff yet.

Sure I mean I don’t think you have to smoke weed to enjoy it. Lots of people I know who watch the show are also well-educated/accomplished. It does have an intelligence to it I suppose, but for me it’s mostly just about the laughs and trippy storylines. Nothing too deep or artistic about it imo, but it is very smartly

Lol those things aren’t mutually exclusive.

Seems like a stretch maybe.

Everyone I know in real life who’s a fan of the show just likes to smoke weed and laugh at the goofy shit onscreen. I didn’t know there was this insidious culture around it.

The first one was like a less annoying Deadpool, yet still just as juvenile. If they ramp up the crazy shit like the church scene I might enjoy it though.

I want a website not a blog. It’s excruciating to browse content here. I want something easy to navigate where I can quickly browse through a huge number of articles.

He seems closer to Woody Allen to me, if we’re comparing filmmakers.

Nah it’s a wicked burn against a dumb movie! ;)

Hey guys. Do you know any sites similar to The AV Club which haven’t been destroyed yet? I don’t think I can take this anymore.

Anybody who didn’t enjoy it is older than 14.

Couldn’t she just mean that the day was already incredible, yet holding the baby stood out as an even greater experience apart from her incredible day? Maybe it’s not the best constructed sentence, but it seems like a stupid thing to jump on.

Make some friends dude, this comment is disturbing and sad.
