Only asexual people don’t see it.

How can you not play a Silent Hill game and notice the millions of sexual metaphors. The first one I played I was like 10 and they were loud and clear even then.

It’s what the developers intended. They’ve said so in numerous interviews. The sexual connotations are noted by the observer because that’s what the developers wanted you to see.

Well aren’t you the expert on what the designers and story writers intended. You might want to do a little investigating yourself before throwing down like that.

I’ve never played a single Silent Hill game, but even I know of the sexual symbolism he represents. The game is almost 17 years old; these theories have been around for a long time. I’m sure the author did not come up with these connotations completely on her own (or at all).

The developers have literally talked about the sexual elements of the game, the monsters, mary, pyramid head, and james’ sexual repression etc, (and I don’t know how this isn’t the most obvious thing just from playing the game, it’s apart of everything in the game) not that the word of the developers should even

It’d be funny if the Mida masterwork was adding HCR back in.

I would certainly consider Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil as some form of parody.

Not sure what you’d consider recent, but Walk Hard is a fantastic spoof of musical biopics. It works both as a spoof and as a film in its own right.

What’s amazing about Young Frankenstein is that if you were to count the number of real gag moments, it wouldn’t be that high compared to other spoofs or other ones he made. He’s incredibly disciplined there, focusing almost exclusively on atmosphere and character; if you cut the 5 funniest minutes from the film, it’d

I agree, Scary Movie 1 and 2 were good and decent to me, Everything after that was awful (3-5 and the other awful Parody Movies).

Some of it is definitely lazy writing, but I don’t think anyone goes into a movie like the Starving Games with the expectation of it being a high quality movie. The spoof genre may have tumbled, but it’s tumbled down to where everyone expects it to be.

I always loved the kill counter on the screen in Part Deux - “bloodiest movie ever!!”

Hot Shots Part Deux is a treasure. There are so many amazing gags. There are plenty of terrible ones too, but here are my “gets me everytime” list:

Scary Movie 3 had some of the best Airplane!-level gags I’ve seen seen in a comedy movie, like the sherrif’s hat getting larger every time they cut to her, or the shovel getting cocked like a shotgun and ejecting a shell. There’s also the part where the entire plot hinges on the aliens being fans of Pooty Tang.

I don’t mean to turn my nose up at the post-Airplane set, which has a lot of funny titles in it. In addition to both Hot Shots, Top Secret is great and I used to love all three Naked Gun movies. I’m not sure I would reach for any of them if I wanted dumb humor today, but they’re all part of that second wave of

“Topper, I can kill again! You’ve given me a reason to live!”

I mostly agree with the piece, but I detect the author slightly turning his nose up at the “anything-for-a-laugh” movies that came after Airplane. Some of my absolute favourite spoof movies are from that era, and I don’t think there’s anything necessarily wrong with prioritising the yuks over “character” or “theme”.
