Maybe we could also get a way for long-time respectful commenters to be taken OUT of the greys so that we’re not put on the same level as trolls?? Just like a clear cut way for real people, who have been a part of this community for years, so that we can understand how to get out of purgatory?
how is that a dick move? he’s a reporter reporting.
I read Helter Skelter some time in my 20s and it traumatized me too, and that was with already knowing a lot of what happened. I’d followed the whole entire business on the news as it unfolded like almost everyone at the time did.
“Let’s hope Debra Tate - ravenously and irrationally committed to keeping Leslie in prison - has a change of heart and learns to forgive. And lets all hope Governor Brown allows the parole to stand.”
A Manson ‘associate’ and friend of Squeeky Fromme, Sandra Good, claimed he was killed by the family and his death was certainly suspicious. Good enough for me to put some weight against parole- which doesn’t require the kind of evidence a criminal case does.
Okay, even being responsible for some of the Manson murders is pretty goddamn heinous. And the two examples you gave of people getting released are hardly “way worse things.” The first link is a robbery gone wrong of an elderly person (he kicked and punched her and took her purse, the woman died of pneumonia in a…
She did not live as a model citizen for ‘several years.’ She was out for six months between trials. The Manson family murdered her lawyer- hence the retrial.
She was ‘manipulated’ for an awful long time out of the presence of the Manson family. At least a year in jail with family and counsel and she still had a ball at her trial, insisted on her active, willing part in the murders and giggled away during description of the murders. Manson family members murdered her…
The fact that she killed several of them for laughs.
What the hell did I just read? Are you high?
I made the mistake of reading Helter Skelter in my early teens and I was traumatized. It does sound strange, as all murders are violent, but I do believe that the level of violence should be a factor...and what Leslie and the others did was on the extreme end.
Since I was actually 18 at the time the murders were committed and 19-20 when the trial took place, yeah I remember it all very well. Were you even alive then?
While I do understand people considering her age (19 is young by most people’s standards), I also have little sympathy for this woman. The physical effort it takes to stab someone in the manner she did is enormous (especially for someone her size)....and she stabbed someone 14 times. This wasn’t a crime of passion or…
Yah, one cannot discount how sensational these killings and the trial were. Marauding hippies was a massive nightmare of the collective conscience. What governor is going to turn down the opportunity to be “tough” on crime and deny parole to Manson or his followers? It’s poison!
Only white people are allowed to be children at 19 even if they have committed vile, violent, hideous crimes. The rest of us are lucky to still be considered kids at 11.
Seriously, I didn’t realize they allowed kinja in state prisons.
Fuck her. She was old enough to know that participating in a double murder would have some serious consequences.
I don’t care if she’s dangerous or not (I mean, I do, but.) She got a life sentence for a horrifying crime and that’s what she should serve.
Right. What makes people think that she would be less dangerous? Because she’s white, female and old with a conservative bob?
