The name Deborah Robinson is either your principal, your college Sociology professor or your Judge. And full on judgement comes with each of those professions. Her mama knew what she was doin.

Ok, here’s the thing. Chrisette Michele was money hungry. Just like Steve Harvey was Importance-Hungry. They thought getting a call from the Trump campaign was going to be more than an “I love Negroes” photo opp that it was. And looking at the C-Span videos of those inaugural performances, she would have done a better

Kirsten, her statements about her recent troubles do not exist in a vacuum. She didn’t just state she had suicidal thoughts and a miscarriage. She said that AND point blank stated that her troubles were the fault of everyone not opening up their wallets for her.

Kirsten, I appreciate the spirit of your post. It’s not great to kick someone when they are down. I read the Michele article on the Root, I haven’t read the YBF one, but I think you conflated things. Your article fails to separate The Root’s critique of Michele from people’s cruelty on Instagram et al. I’d argue that

Don’t hold your breath.

I’m specifically talking about people who were able to vote, but chose poorly. I’m not talking about people who were the targets of voter suppression: largely black and brown people, and students who got fucked on new state laws regarding residency and and ID.

I for damn sure didn’t vote for HRC because I loved her. I really want to understand where she’s coming from with that.

I did it because I have sense enough to know that what we ended up with wasn’t what we wanted. MOST black people women felt the same way. “Girl, I guess I’m with her” was a thing, so I don’t know why

I’m not happy with the argument “You can’t criticize her because there’s a dozen people that are worse.

Thank you! If Michele was singing the FoxNews theme song, singing the National Anthem at NFL games, and opening for a Charlie Daniels concert, this article and the crazy hot takes wouldn’t even exist.

Then men get plenty of grief from us. They are getting the bulk of their money & support from white people. As for the ostracism, this case is indeed particular because we didn’t see a patch on her coat amd we found out when she walked out with it on. She didn’t commit a crime and we found out afterward. We voiced our

Everyone isn’t lumped into one group here. My stance is fuck her in general but obviously I don’t condone nor do i participate in mocking her suicidal thoughts or miscarriage. If you support Trump you’re on my “Get fucked” list. In my eyes thats your boy and you support his bullshit we can’t be cool. It is what it is.

No, I didn’t notice that because it’s not true.

So, black people should be more like white people, in others words? Honestly, using white people as the standard for how others should behave...just, seriously think about what you’re saying.

It seems to me she first came out with discussing how she was disowned by family and dropped from her label. The miscarriage and the suicide attempt were only revealed after that first sympathy ploy gained no traction. No, that does not mean the miscarriage and the suicide attempt did not happen. And, yes, she does

I only want her to come out stronger if she comes out a better person. So far, she’s showing that she’s taken no constructive criticism to heart. We don’t need people in the sunken place thinking they’ve “won.”

If you attempt to weaponize your suicidal thoughts and miscarriage against legitimate criticism of a decision you willfully made against all kinds of advice to the contrary, it’s not brave. In fact, it makes you a low-down dirty dog.

I do feel sorry for all of the personal struggles that she has faced, but I still cannot support anyone who is in any way complicit in white supremacy. She made a horrible choice that many advised her not to make, and now has to live with the long term ramifications of that choice. Actions have consequences.

Great article! You make some strong arguments here that encouraged me to think more broadly about Michele’s situation, especially as apart of a much bigger gender and race problem. Just prior to reading this, I posted to Michel Harriot’s article, supporting his point of view.

Ok-thanks. Cuz I thought it was just me but I now realize that this writer is very defensive. Personally I appreciate the content of the article and how it was written—even if I don’t feel sympathetic to Chrisette Michele’s plight. And I’m entitled to my opinion. Isn’t the goal of writing to provoke thought and

Maybe she should use that money she got from Trump so she can go take care of herself and her psychological needs. This is utter BS. when people totally advised her well ahead of the time to not do this.
