My only complaint is that this is an Overwatch map instead of real life.

I say this unironically and in total seriousness: the dumber a series is, the more willing I am to dive head-long into its lore. I would enjoy, probably more that anyone really should, more DOOM backstory.

Merging weapons wouldn’t have been bad if they hadn’t made universal ammo. With (effectively) four weapons equipped, the original ammo system would mean you’d see less ammunition overall for each weapon. So now you’ve got an interesting choice: do you go with guns for all situations and risk spreading your ammo supply

If it means a Dead Space 4, I’ll happily buy an HD re-release of the franchise (especially if it means the Wii shooter gets ported to a platform I own).

Yeah. It’s definitely an issue that suddenly Hawke’s willing to just totally mind her own business, given that the rest of the game is basically her sticking her nose into anything even remotely interesting going on, whether it concerns her or not, but I feel like the payoff was worth some comparatively minor

This is exactly how I felt about Anders in DA2 (and I LIKED Anders in Awakening), and, like you, I use it to talk about how well that game was written. It’s such a great character evolution as he walks, step by step, from rebellion to extremism to mass murderer, and I have never hated anyone in a game as much as I did

Wow. Who knew you could make a person metabolize alcohol faster by making them look at a streetlight. If only we had these streetlights along our streets, we’d eliminate drunk driving entirely! Truly, does L. Ron’s wisdom know any limits?

I loved the campaign. Aside from the weird timeline (it feels like the story is taking weeks, but actually, no, the whole thing happened in less than a day?), I thought it was excellent.

It is 100% Official Mario Canon (TM).

Oh man, the followup tweet to that, with the Miyamoto interview, is one of the funniest things I’ve read in a while.

If VR-ready computers have doubled in the last year, have the numbers of installed VR sets increased at the same rate? How has usage trended? It really, REALLY seems, to someone looking in from the outside, like VR’s early buzz has worn off, and interest outside of the core fan group has peaked and is now waning.

Did you play as a time-traveling cowboy? I remember that! I only saw it once, but I bummed some change off my mom and played it for a little bit. I remember very little other than it being a thing I experienced, and that it was a SEGA game when that meant something good.

This sounds really fun.

Plus, you know, an office culture that didn’t gel with the other studio they were collaborating with (and that they themselves weren’t used to operating in), drastic shifts of direction, a lead designer with experience in writing but not in design, the long wait for approval on things by Lucas, morale problems, etc.

Not really. My understanding is that Andromeda and DA 3 wound up inventing a lot of the same systems because their development cycles overlapped too much. I remember reading that both teams had issues with implementing quest systems and inventories, where better planning would have meant that one team would have

I don’t pay a huge amount of attention to sports games (no elitism here, they’re just not my cup of tea), but I thought, when this whole scheme was rolled out years ago, that EA’s sports games were all going to go on one engine optimized for sports games - probably whatever that year’s Madden or FIFA was using - and

Maybe read the article first; there’s plenty of blame to go around, and EA, at worst, shares an equal blame with Visceral itself.

You’re not wrong about Frostbite’s issues, but at the same time, when you look at how much time and effort and money studios sink into making their own engines, it absolutely makes sense why EA is mandating it: IF they can get all the bits and bobs in place, it would be a tremendous savings for every other studio to

Dead Space 3 is a lot better than its reputation suggests.

I choose to believe that the DOOM Slayer is the family’s ancient patriarch from the mists of prehistory.
