Comedians can tell whatever jokes they want. Everyone can tell whatever jokes they want. The problem is never the jokes in themselves; it’s that they choose to tell the laziest fucking joke they can because they know it’ll get a cheap pop. And it’s a helluva lot easier to be like “trans people are weird, wocka wocka!”…

There are two sides to what Marlon Wayans is saying. The side he’s coming from is the side where comedy, particularly topical/social commentary types of jokes, are meant to be thought-provoking, insightful, and ultimately funny. Those comedians are using art to make fun of life.

He actually says something really intelligent in the art of comedy that not many people don’t see: you have to workshop your stuff over and over before you nail a joke and a whole set. Comedy IS definitely about working things out in order to get a laugh from an audience.
