To be honest, Mercedes has been coasting on the reputation of the W123 and W124 for decades.  Modern ones are nowhere near what those two were in terms of durability.

I know multiple owners of the G35/G37 and every one of them kept it 6+ years, one had it for 11 years I think. They were a hell of a car for the price, and hit so many nails on the head. The Q50 began its decline when it became too ‘soft’. 

I own a 2009 G37. It is a reasonably priced, fast, reliable, moderately attractive, good handling, and overall fun to drive four door sedan (compared to a Camry). My prescription is for them to go back to building things like the G37 - quality, inexpensive, RWD alternatives to the Germans.
