I’m in the same boat. A quick search shows that you can get a Tahoe or similar vintage and mileage for $4500-5500. While not manual, the Tahoe is a better vehicle for 95% of people and has a better drivetrain.

Automation will happen for the same reason outsourcing to Mexico and China etc happened, because management will always look for ways to cut costs. So yes, the technology allows for it, but it’s management that will relentlessly pursue it.
