This is a great post man. I made a similar crack in one of Doug's posts about how if you go buy a 20K used Merc, people think you're a rich asshole, but if you go buy a 70K Diesel Truck, you're just an average Joe.

The catacaysmically awful Oldsmobile Diesels. I'm not sure what all they were put int but the cutlass diesel for sure was a train wreck in mobile form. The engine was apallingly awful and shook out all its internals, the car had the build quality of an ice cream sandwich in the sahara desert, and the fuel economy

in a previous life I was a vision scientist, so when I saw this I looked into it. The reason they do that is to remove what amounts to visual noise. The LED DRLs are so bright that they reduce the range at which you can see the indicator blinking. Seems counterintuitive, but that's the reasoning.
