Exactly! Fashion models are representative of the country's population in general! That's why they're all super tall and skinny, since most Americans are! It's not like they're trying to create a beauty ideal in the social conscious or anything! They're just being realistic!

Well, I'd argue that the majority of American and European women aren't 5'10 and size 2, but models almost exclusively are. I don't think designers care about representing their target consumers as much as they do creating an "ideal beauty" for people to aspire toward. And "ideal beauty" (to these designers) is

This. Sadly, whiteness is seen as "higher end" and more "elite" than darker skin. The makeup industry is another example of this - luxury brands rarely make products for women with deeper skin tones, while drugstore brands often do.

Huh? Did you miss the part where she says Canada is no better?

Ok, ButfuqMileyCyrus. You seem like a totally legit commenter and not a troll at all.

I don't understand. Are you saying that someone who is unhealthily overweight shouldn't even try to lose weight, because they'll probably just gain it back?

Ok, I get you're not referring to this case. But please spell it out for us - in what way could attractiveness be a factor? Attractiveness of the rapist or the victim? What do you meeeeaaan??

I died at this comment

Cats are fuzzy angels from heaven! >:-(

Agreed. Taking televised revenge on them years later shows she's been stewing over it and focused on them, which doesn't seem empowered.

I went back and looked, and you're right. The post I was talking about was by dogonabun, and I accidentally attributed it to you. He/she calls "yankee" racist, not you. Sorry

I think the culture of college (and pro) sports definitely contributes to sexual assault. These players are often treated like heroes on campus, and have a deep sense of entitlement and the belief that they're beyond reproach.

What rape problem?

You could tell he was getting off just writing it.

You've been arguing up until now that the term "yankee" is racist - now you're moving the goalpost and arguing that political oppression is bad. Of course it is, but "yankee" isn't a racist term. FFS.

I don't think you know what racism means (hint: it doesn't mean people of the *same race* discriminating against each other based on which state they live in).

Agreed. Retaliatory rape is the most horrific thing I've ever heard of.

Nannies do have an impact. As do school teachers, sports coaches, camp counsellors, etc. Apart from parents who homeschool and don't put their children in extracurricular activities, everybody has to turn their kid over to someone else for several hours a day.

Lmao
