That actually makes a lot of sense. I think I was focusing on cultural displays of gender, rather than a psychological and emotional awareness of gender. Thanks for your comment

I know! They would have had a field day over it. "Anne copies Amanda", "Anne has no personal style". And I'm one of the people who don't really like her.

Or the urinals could be in stalls!

Absolutely, constructs are real forces in our lives. I can imagine how agonizing it would be to feel trapped in your body. I guess it's more of a psychological issue; not so much about what culturally gendered behaviors you prefer, but rather whether or not you connect, psychosomatically, with your 'assigned gender'.

Very interesting point, and you're right, it's hard for me to imagine a feeling I've never felt. Which absolutely does not mean that feeling can't exist.

Yes, there seems to be this other, undefinable characteristic of gender, beyond the socially enforced clothes, toys and behaviors. It's puzzling because it conflicts with the notion of gender as a performance, and requires that gender is an innate knowledge. However, I'll admit that it's possible I don't get it

Ok, I have a fairly ignorant question. I've read many accounts of trans people who knew from the time they were very young, that they were in the wrong body. How does a person identify as a particular gender, when gender itself is a social construct? I mean, girls are supposed like pink, wear dresses, play with dolls

It makes no difference because institutionalized racism doesn't affect you. That's why it makes no difference.

Haha

I agree. But bunnies are so cute :(

She also didn't even mention to the kid that she has HPV...isn't that something you should share with your partners? Am I just old-fashioned?

I don't think she's ready to admit that she sabotages her own relationships, so she pretends the other person didn't want to work on it. I think she also felt remorseful about the way she treated Thomas-John duirng their fight, and probably tried to apologize, but he wasn't having it. So she spun that into "he doesn't

So where did Jessa get her money, if her parents aren't wealthy?! She comes across like a total trust fund kid - partying in Europe, living in NYC on a babysitter's wages (until she was fired)?

Certainly, an individual CAN be racist towards white people, but there is no instutionalized racism against white people in the West. It's like saying that poverty affects you because you had to fly coach to your vacation in Hawaii.

Lol, nice try

How do you make a grilled cheese? Do you just butter the frozen slices and put them in a pan?

I still can't believe he said that.

I'm not sure I understand your disdain for the article. The whole point of Muliarchyk's piece is to get people thinking about food as a luxury (since many cannot afford it), which is exactly what you're arguing.

Best.
