I think Danny's motivation here is essentially "be a hero". He protects Joy from the hatchet men, saves Sabina from the Hand, tries to eradicate the Hand from Rand corporation, tries to get them to give away drugs for cost (I guess I mean give away research), tries to bust up their heroin operation, tries to save

He struck one of Colleen's students. He beat the tar out of the drunken master guy. He raged at Colleen when he found out she was with the Hand. He flew into a rage in the surveillance center and threw a bunch of equipment. They have totally shown that Danny has rage issues.

Yes, I especially enjoyed the scene of Danny getting stapled up, too.

Don't start telling me it wasn't!

I really loved Big Al's soliloquy on how society went wrong when we took up agriculture. I also enjoyed him telling Danny to piss in his shoes!

But, Wall Street meets Big sounds like a lot of fun to me! Then again, I think IF is fun, so obviously they figured out a formula that works with people like me.

It's an 18-hour flight, I'll think of something on the way!

Can't agree with this enough. The beginning just had to show some promise, and I thought it did, even though it wasn't all perfect. It was weird enough to be intriguing, and I will confess that Finn Jones is a cutie, and that didn't hurt my interest.

This. I don't think that everyone in The Hand is aware of this sort of thing going on. Some students are judged to be "special," and they get to be the enforcers. Others are just worked bees.

I was also going to go with exsanguination.

I just don't see that. He's morose sometimes, yes, but I think his primary mode of being is joyful, at least he was in the initial episodes where we are first getting to know the character. He was happy to meet people, he was happy to be given a chicken parm by Big Al, and he's delighted to fight/show off with Colleen.

This bugged me too. Didn't they show Ward having to use a palm-scanner to gain access to the penthouse? And then Joy just walks right in in this episode…

They both really, really love fighting. It's this weird hobby they have in common.

See, to me, that's just great characterization. He can't shut up about being the Iron Fist because he's a big kid…

Since we're looking at The Hand as being a sort of cult, I am reminded of Underground about the Tokyo subway gas attack. One of the things that struck me in reading the book was that Murakami managed to interview some cult members who, while having clearly been involved in a cult, convincingly stated that they were

Sure it is that, but Colleen seems to have "graduated" from it. Seems like they ought to allow her some leeway to be an adult. That, and they want Danny to join them. You really can't tell someone they have to stay in a separate room from their partner and then immediately ask them to be your buddy/ally/whatever.

Good point! After all, aren't people going to start coming up to him and demanding food? Or the authorities might come by to "remind" him that he has to move the truck overnight…

When you're terrified of flying, turbulence can really get you going. Takeoff and landing are also nerve-wracking, but are time-limited. It's very difficult to keep in mind that turbulence is normal and does not signal impending death. This has been my experience flying commercial, at least.

I really liked this episode. I queued it up with some trepidation, as I felt the previous episode was a letdown. But it was great. I even liked Gao telling Danny that those around him were stealing his ability to trust. I love it because it's true in this case on the show, and also frequently true in real life. Bakuto

I have to say, as a person who is terrified of flying, that it was super gratifying to see them show Danny being terrified of flying, and his friends talk him through that. Though of course logically, it does beg the question of how he made it back to the US.
