Yeah, I see this attitude all over G/O Media (especially Jez): “What about all the poooooors!!?” These sites are for people who don’t really have to worry about money or healthcare. Commenters get to ‘clever’ and low-key boast about their conscientious intentions. The really funny part is that this site was originally

Yeah as someone who is a little older and more established in my field, I’m more than happy to let recent grads who want to prove themselves by doing all the work, do all the work. That was my first thought. If LW’s colleagues are such highly educated multilingual polymaths, I doubt they even feel the need to compete

American work culture is unique. We are probably the only country in the world that is obsessed with others believing we have a good work ethic. Even in Asian countries where people work an obscene amount of hours, they are not doing it because they want to be better than their peers.

I think this is entirely about you

Is anyone else totally unsympathetic to Paris’ story about getting her ass kicked at “come to Jesus” camp which her parents sent her to probably because she was a hellion of a teenager? Poor little white girl’s not so tough in the middle of the wilderness, huh? Tale as old as time. My mom just saved her money and

Lmao millions of people have jobs 100x more stressful and aren’t cunts 24/7 to their colleagues. It wasn’t a handful of times it was her default setting. I’ve gotten in a slight tiff at work twice in 15 years and I’m not a pampered millionaire. Your excusing toxic behavior because its a woman.

Having worked in restaurants for years, I have always told my staff that if they can’t leave their home life behind and be friendly, nice, and polite to the hundred people they interact with each day, they’re not in the right business. Naturally there are exceptions, like personal tragedy, schools finals, etc, but

“I’m not excusing Ellen’s behaviour...”

Proceeds to excuse Ellen’s behaviour.

People work service jobs 40+ hours a week to make ends meet. This includes dealing with hundreds of people per DAY. These people (including myself) STILL are capable of being personable to those they don’t know and those they work with.

Ellen

I don’t think she was drunk every time. Also, that isn’t an excuse.

Really? REALLY?

Your average Taco Bell worker in a metropolitan area deals with more people on a daily basis than Ellen does in a fucking month, and we expect them to be kind and courteous for 0.02% of what she makes in a goddamn year.

There is ZERO excuse for her to be rude or short or cold toward anyone she works

No shit right?  Ask a hotel receptionist if theyre allowed to treat people like shit.  They deal with hundreds of guests per day.  Ellen just has to shoot the shit with celebrities or genuinely interesting people.  What a terrible gig!  Where do I sign up??

Bullshit. Millions of people deal with more stressful jobs every day that matter a hell of a lot more than her and pay a hell of a lot less. No one says she needs to do it with a smile on her face but she sure as shit needs to treat people with respect.

Doing a show like this and having to interact with hundreds of guests a year must be exhausting.”  Then GET A DIFFERENT JOB.

You’re right and you’re partner’s wrong.
If it were just about working through deep trauma in order to move on, they wouldn’t have needed to constantly tell the audience how rich and successful she is.

I think that level of catharsis is what Paris is banking on so everyone can forget the problematic parts of her life. I certainly feel bad for anyone who has experienced trauma in their lives but it’s pretty shitty to use that as a way to justify anything beyond her own personal suffering - she is solely responsible

I’ll pass this along so it can be recorded in the permanent record.

that’s fair but if it’s less of an examination of Paris, naming it ‘This is Paris’ and admittedly making the doc to rehabilitate her image is incredibly self-serving. if she didn’t want these particular criticisms, it might have made more sense to frame it as being about that collective trauma rather than just

Yeah, sorry, call me cynical but I’m not really buying the theory that her brand is the result of her trauma. She would like for the viewers to come to that conclusion and somehow be redeemed but I know plenty of trauma survivors who don’t end up racist, homophobic fame whores. I’m not saying it had no impact, but I

Yeah I feel precisely 0 percent bad for Paris Hilton. I was bullied and I’m not a vile entitled racist cunt. Maybe kind of a cunt but in a fun way.

I’m sorry, but that’s absurd. Most of this leaked at the peak of her fame when she was continuing to be given TV shows and endless opportunities. People cared about her, they gave her a pass because she was wealthy and enviable.

Her trauma didn’t make her a racist POS. She’s a racist POS that also happened to experience trauma.
