RTFA, its not DYING its simply no longer going to be developed by MOZILLA. They are opening it up for others to add new features (although, it was already open-source) and they also said that they were going to help stabilize it when it needs it.
Don't even have to stealthily remove the battery. The sounds of the cover coming off would sound similar to static.
Can't think of anything you might have missed. Also, I do the whole 'Turn the phone off mid-sentence' thing all the time, works like a charm.

This would actually be pretty freaking sweet.
It's comparing google trends, so its really just comparing words. People don't look up 'photo wordpress' to find a photography blog, they would search 'photo blog' or something along those lines.
