I'll be sure to check out Tobe Hooper's adaptation at some point. And funny you mention the two short stories related to Salem's Lot: the version I have of the novel include those stories. Haven't read them, given by the time I finished the book itself I was pretty underwhelmed but perhaps I'll read them later on.

The whole ensemble is really great. Grace Zabriskie has a particularly nice small role as the grandmother.
I thought it was a bloated, turgid book, complete with flat characters and even flatter dialogue. It's a horror soap without a heart, IMO. Which would be fine if King had embraced the schlocky nature of it all, but he was still treating the material with a solemness that killed the fun. I get that King loves Peyton…
