Particularly when he says earlier in the film he wants to hear her neck snap. Daisy maybe wanted dead or alive for murder, but Ruth is clearly relishing the power he has (until, you know…).

Books:
*Dolores Claiborne:The second novel by Stephen King I've read, and if Salem's Lot nearly killed my interest in his work, this novel brought it roaring back to life. King was already a seasoned pro at this point, and with Dolores Claiborne, it's clear he wanted to try something new and explores deeper currents

Ice Cream Planet's LiveJournal™:
*A pretty quite week, all and all. After all the festivities and excitement with rolling in a new year, the past few days have been very low-key, which is exactly what I needed. No wild one-night stands or anything other craziness.

Heartbreaking, but so important. Those public defenders deserve more honor and recognition for their work.

No arguments there.

Exactly! It's not just 'oh, the poor boys, everyone else sucks.' It really looks at all angles of the crime and how many lives to destroyed in the process.

Have you seen Gideon's Army? It touches a little bit on that, particularly all the other hoops poor people and people of color have to deal with when it comes to the legal system.

I just watched the first one this past summer and it was so infuriating and disturbing.

Funny enough, I'm thinking of trying to watch all over the weekend too. I'm sure it'll leave me feeling even more misanthropic and suspicious of the police…. but, true crime!

That was a fantastic read. Heartbreaking stuff all around.

'Yuki found her ideal embodiment in Meiko Kaji, early icon of female action stardom and ultimate ice queen, whose huge, deep-set eyes reflect both burning hatred and heartbreaking reluctance.'

It's a film I unabashedly love. It has a great balance between highbrow and lowbrow, and Meiko Kaji's performance is so chilly, yet with just the right hunts of vulnerability beneath the surface, it's a joy to watch.

Out of Sight is probably her best work (never saw Selena, so perhaps that was her best performance). She also held herself well in Mi Familia.

With a good script and director, she can be an appealing presence. But she will never be an actor who can rise above the material provided.

That about sums it up!

I really must read his work soon.

Thankfully, and after further investigating, it turns out that £20,800 is still the entry level minimum for a work visa job. The £35k is for indefinite leave to remain, which is required after, at the longest, 5 years. So, I need to make sure I get a job that would hit that threshold. It's a good motivator, but still,

I never read Hannibal myself, but Martin Amis did a very funny hatchet job on it back in the day. I kind of want to read it because of it.

It's such a great novel.

That's fantastic news! Job well done! I hope you are doing something special to celebrate.
