I'm so glad you finally got to see it. It's an exquisite film.

Mulholland Drive is my absolute favorite film, so naturally I'll say you should watch it again soon. If nothing else, David Lynch and Naomi Watts are one of the great director-actor pairings in cinema. If only she had been nominated (and won) Best Actress for her work.
Books:
*Other People: A Mystery Story: The book Martin Amis wrote before the masterpiece Money: A Suicide Note. Other People may lack Money's instant classic feel (it's my choice for one of the best post-WWII British novels), but it's still an excellently written character study. Amis tries his hand at Kafkaesque…

*A happy Christmas to my favorite online commenter community. I hope you all had a solid time (or at least not too painful)
*I spent Christmas in Ireland (first Christmas away from my parents) with a family friend. I was in Leap, in her cottage right near the bay (it was literally a 30…
Ah, that would explain it. That must have been a disappointing blow for Walley-Beckett.
I think you'll love 45 Years.
It's strange; while the first few episodes, save for the pilot, weren't that great, there have been so many series that have taken a season or so to find their voice. Given Walley-Beckett became the first woman to win a solo writing Emmy in 20 years and it is Starz, I honestly wonder why they didn't give it another…
At least Flesh and Bone had the misfortune to be cancelled halfway through production (based on the reports I've heard), so the rushed, haphazard plotting and characterization makes more sense. Smash lasted for two seasons; it has no excuse.
Aya Cash deserves ever accolade for her work on You're the Worst.
It's an exquisite film. I wouldn't say I liked it quite as much as Weekend (for obvious personal reasons), but in a just world, Charlotte Rampling would get an Oscar nomination for her performance here, and Haigh would get Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay nominations.
August is a Wicked Month sounds a bit like Chocolates for Breakfast or Georgy Girl, which isn't a bad thing. Its punch may have been softened with time, but good on O'Brien for being one of the earlier writers to push through that door.
I hope you and MLA thoroughly enjoy both them, particularly Carol.
Yeah, it's the universe's way of balancing it out. So it goes!
I'm so sorry you were let go, but it's great you're not wasting any time in starting your job search again. Best of luck!
What about the bear rape?!
GODDAMMIT! It doesn't come out until 8 Jan in the UK, and I don't think a single place is doing the 70mm treatment.
Group work is an unavoidable part of my dream career, but hopefully any future group projects will involve me being part of a group where I'm not the only native English speaker.
I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Carol and I envy you and Iffy get to see The Hateful Eight so soon.
Books:
*The Road to Wigan Pier: A rightful classic from George Orwell. It can be a bit uneven in spots, particularly in how Orwell balances his more journalistic tendencies with his own personal recollections with his class snobbery. However, both parts are so interesting and compelling, the book is nothing less than…

*I finished my first semester at University of Westminster, and I feel good. Genuinely, completely happy. I've never felt this way in school; oh sure, I've been proud and happy of my accomplishments, but nothing quite like this. Westminster is everything I could have dream of and more,…
