Confuesd by the plethora of machines in the market I had an inspiration: What do the Italians choose? Turns out the Amazon.it best seller is the Saeco (AKA Philips) Poemia so I got one. 80 bucks. Simple, reliable, easy to use, great coffee. Perfect.

Rice should have neutral taste.
I haven’t always wanted one. I haven’t ever wanted one. I don’t want one now.
